At Water Babies Canada, we have the privilege of working with amazing families every day. We love hearing from parents about their experiences in the pool with their little ones and today we’re excited to share Danielle’s inspiring story. Danielle has been swimming with Water Babies for years. Both children were born prematurely, and their journey is nothing short of remarkable. Let’s hear more from Danielle.
Hey Danielle, could you tell us more about your children?
Danielle: “I have two children. My daughter Peyton is 3-and-a-half years old, and my son, Emmit is 11 months old. They’re my miracle babies.
We understand they were born prematurely. Could you tell us more about it?
Danielle: “Yes, due to my health issues – I'm a brain tumor patient – both of my pregnancies were high-risk. Because of my declining health during pregnancy, both Peyton and Emmit were induced prematurely. Despite being small at birth, 6 lbs. and 5 lbs. and some minor birth defects, which have corrected themselves, they’re both healthy, happy and thriving.”
What made you decide to enroll your premature babies in Water Babies lessons?
Danielle: “Being a first-time mom when Peyton was born, I was worried about her development. Because she was born prematurely, I feared she wouldn’t hit her developmental milestones as quickly as other babies. I wanted to do everything I could to help her grow and develop. That’s why I decided to enroll her in Water Babies lessons.
By the time Emmit was born, I'd already seen firsthand the progress Peyton made through swimming. I knew I wanted Emmit to have the same experience.”
How have Water Babies lessons benefited your children?
Danielle: “Introducing my little ones to swimming early on has helped them in so many ways. Water Babies lessons have had a huge impact on my kids – physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Physically, the lessons have helped strengthen their arms, legs and core muscles. Mentally, it’s taught them water safety skills and important swimming fundamentals that they’ll use throughout their lives. And emotionally, being in the water has given them the opportunity to socialize with other children and interact with adults outside of my partner and I, which is essential for their development.”
One of the most amazing benefits has been the freedom the water gives them. Being in the water has allowed both Peyton and Emmit to move their bodies independently, which I believe has helped them catch up on their motor development.”
Would you recommend Water Babies to other parents of premature babies?
Danielle: “Absolutely! Water Babies is perfect for premature babies. Swimming lessons are a great way to stay active with your little one, and the water offers a gentle, supportive environment for them to grow and develop.
Danielle’s Final Message to Parents of Premature Babies:
Danielle: “I encourage other parents not to be nervous about starting lessons. The teachers at Water Babies make you feel safe and supported from the very beginning. You’ll be amazed at how much your little one – and yourself – will learn. It’s a fun experience, and we look forward to our lessons every week.”
Danielle’s story is a testament to the power of swimming for all children. Swimming lessons can be a life-changing experience for our swimmers and their families, providing essential development benefits in a safe and nurturing environment.
